DEATH OF MRS. AUSTIN

Mrs. Florence Austin, member of a pioneer Walnut township family, died at her home in Lorimor June 15th. She was 76 years old.

Mrs. Austin was born Florence Gibbons, the daughter of James W. and Isabel Gibbons, in Park county, near Rockville, Indiana, on January 3, 1958. The family later moved to this county, where she was married in 1881 to George W. Austin. The couple had no children of their own, but reared a homeless girl, Flossie Hole.

In 1883 they moved to Seward county, Nebraska, and two years later to Thomas county, Kansas. Later they returned to Madison county and bought a farm in Monroe township where they lived until 1916 when they moved into Lorimor.

Mrs. Austin early in life became a member of the Methodist church. She was also a long-time member of Venus chapter, Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, her foster daughter, Mrs. Flossie Rankin, two sisters, Harriet Gibbons and Belle Rickets and three brothers, Ira, John, and Fred Gibbons.

Funeral services were held June 17th at the Methodist church in Lorimor, and burial was made in the Barney cemetery.
