G. B. ALEXANDER OF WINTERSET PASSES

Veteran Local Resident and Former City Assessor Died Sunday

G. B. Alexander, recently the assessor for the city of Winterset, and resident of Madison county since childhood, died at his home in Winterset Sunday evening. He had suffered a stroke of apoplexy Friday, and it was complicated by bronchial pneumonia. He was 73 years of age.

Mr. Alexander was a native of Missouri, coming to Madison county with his parents at the age of about 4 years. They settled on a farm about 11 miles southwest of Winterset.

He spent most of his active life as a farmer in Madison county, moving to Winterset about 20 years ago.

As a young man he was married to Electa Bertholf. They were the parents of six children. Three of the children survive: Worth Alexander of Winterset, Mrs. Ab Clark of near Winterset and Lucy Alexander of Winterset.

He also leaves three brothers, Marion Alexander, J. G. Alexander, his twin brother of Colorado and John Alexander of Texas.

Funeral services had not been completed as the Madisonian went to press Monday afternoon.

LAST RITES HELD – G. B. ALEXANDER

Well Known Resident Dies At Home Sunday. Services Are Tuesday

G. B. “Banks” Alexander, 73, former city assessor, died at his home Sunday night. Mr. Alexander suffered a stroke Friday evening, which with bronchial pneumonia complications, causes death.

He had lived in the county since he was about four years old and have a wide acquaintance over the entire county. His parents were Hugh and Charlotte Alexander and he was born near Pleasanton, Missouri, August 19, 1863. The Alexander family lived in Monroe township where he grew to manhood. His marriage to Miss Electa Bertholf took place November 13, 1887. Mrs. Alexander and two daughters, Hazel and Agnes, are deceased. He had been a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge since a young man.

He is survived by his children, Worth Alexander, Mrs. Alvin Clark and Lucy Alexander, his brothers John Alexander of Hext, Texas, F. M. Alexander of Winterset, and his twin brother, Grant Alexander, of Delta, Colorado; and a granddaughter Shirley Ann Clark.

Services were held in the Ramsey–Richards funeral home Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock conducted by the Rev. L. F. Davis. Burial was in the Clark Cemetery with Madison Lodge I. O. O. F. in charge.
