Mabel Emma Mleynek Stanley was born May 4th, 1889 in Guthrie County near Jamaica, Iowa. In 1894 her parents moved four miles northeast of Earlham. There she attended church and Sunday School at Hickory Grove. Later she became a member of the Church of Christ in DeSoto. At that time there was no Christian Church in Earlham, but later when the church was organized she became one of the charter members, and she has ever since been active in all departments until her sickness of the last few weeks.
In 1908 she was graduated from Earlham Academy. In her school life she was always very quiet and earnest; thoughtful always and trying to imbibe those qualities which go to make up sweet, young womanhood. With clean mind, clean thoughts, clean heart she found her way into the hearts and lives of people in, near and around Earlham. Through her service in the Dean and Price store her acquaintance was extended, and everybody with whom she came in contact knew her for her quiet, sweet and unassuming ways.
On February 26, 1919 she was married to George Stanley. On June 29 of the same year, at 9:30 in the morning her spirit passed away. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband George Stanley, father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mleynek, sister and brother, Blanche and Charlie, uncles and other relatives and many friends.
Symbolical of her life, even to the hour of her death, she never complained. She was strongly attached to her mother and home. Her last hours were spent under the care and protection of all her dear ones.
She had to give up her life just as the race was beginning. The bright dreams of the future that were hers could not be realized here in this sad world. We know not why they were not to be. They will perhaps be realized in that land of new made glories. Death is gain to those who are prepared to die.
The rough ways of earth have been exchanged for the paths of peace over on that golden shore - if her life bore the fruit of righteousness, which we believe it did. We cannot see why the young are taken away from us, but God knows best - all things are in His hands. We have to submit to His will. She has crossed the sea of life and trod the valley of death, and will sometime reach the shining strand of eternity's shore.
