LAWRENCE J. PIATT

Lawrence J. Piatt, son of Geo. and Lewrena Hennen Piatt, was born February 12, 1897, on a farm in Penn township, Madison county, Iowa, and passed away Thursday morning, January 6, 1966 at the Dexter Clinic hospital after a lingering illness of more than three years. He was 68 years, 10 months, 25 days old at the time of his death.

Mr. Piatt attended the rural schools of Penn township. He became actively engaged in farming in early life. On August 21, 1918, at Greenfield, Iowa, he was married to Mable L. Henkle. This union was blessed by three children.

Mr. Piatt was a long-time member of the Early Chapel Christian church of rural Earlham. He was an enthusiastic leader in all affairs of his community, having served on the Madison county fair board, and the Earlham school board for many years. He was an ardent 4-H club leader, and a member of the Earlham Lions Club. He was widely known for his interest in livestock and he was dedicated to the work of young people. Having retired from active farming and moving to the town of Earlham in 1945, he greatly enjoyed his grandchildren.

Mr. Piatt was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson. Surviving him are his wife, Mable; two sons, Marlin and Warren, both of Dexter; and daughter, Connie Allen of near Earlham; two daughters-in-law, Phyllis and Gwendolyn Piatt; and a son-in-law, Curtis Allen. The seven grandchildren are Keith, Barbara and Janice, Teresa, Russell and Susan Piatt, and Bradley Allen. He is also survived by two brothers, Willard of Newberg, Oregon, and Lester of Earlham, many other relatives, and a host of friends.

Services for Lawrence J. Piatt of Earlham were held Sunday afternoon in the Penn Center church with interment in the Penn Center cemetery. Mr. Piatt, 68, passed away Thursday morning in the Dexter hospital after being hospitalized for three years and eight months.

Mr. Piatt was a lifelong member of the Early Chapel Christian church and a member of the Lions Club at Earlham. He was formerly chairman of the Madison county fair board and a member of the Earlham school board. His occupation was farming.

Survivors include his wife, Mable, one daughter, Mrs. Curtis (Connie) Allen, both of Earlham, two sons, Marlin and Warren both of Dexter, two brothers, Willard of Oregon, and Lester of Earlham and seven grandchildren.
