Willard Voshel Piatt, eldest son of George and Lewrena Hennen Piatt, was born February 16, 1892, on a farm in Penn township, Madison county, Iowa, where he spent his boyhood days.
He departed from this life, Friday evening, May 6, 1966, at the home of his adopted son and wife, Alvin and Hazel Piatt, of New Berg, Oregon. He was making his home with them when death claimed him at the age of 74 years, 2 months and 20 days.
As a young man, he became a member of the Early Chapel Christian Church, later transferring to the Penn Center Methodist church, and at the time of his death his membership was with the Methodist church of Dexter, Iowa.
On October 25, 1916, he was united in marriage to Vivian Hemphill at De Soto, Iowa. They made their home in the Penn Center, Bear Creek, and Des Moines areas until April, 1960, when they moved to Dexter for their retirement. While living in Des Moines, Mr. Piatt was employed by Bankers Life Insurance Co.
Shortly after the death of his wife, he moved to New Berg, Oregon, to be with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and his brother, Lawrence Piatt. He is survived by his adopted son and daughter, Alvin and Hazel Piatt; four grandchildren; Alvin Jr., Willard, Vivian, and Michael, and by seven great grandchildren, all of New Berg, Oregon. He is also survived by one brother, Lester Piatt, of Earlham; two sisters-in-law: Mrs. Lawrence Piatt and Mrs. Lester Piatt of Earlham; two nephews: Marlin and Warren Piatt of Dexter; three nieces: Mrs. Phyllis Shaw of West Des Moines, Mrs. Hilda Crouse of Des Moines, and Mrs. Connie Allen of Earlham, and by many other relatives and a host of friends.
Willard was a friendly man and wherever he was, he had many who cherished his friendship.

Dexter: Rev. John Latta conducted funeral services Friday, May 13, 1966, at 1:30 p.m., for Willard Piatt, 74, of Newburg, Oregon, at the Dexter Methodist church. Mrs. K. M. Chapler presided at the organ. Attending the casket were Von Trent, Ray Cave, Harry Henkle, Hazen Morford, Earnest Brown and Morris Boyle. Interment was at Penn Center Cemetery; funeral director was Roy E. Evans.
Mr. Piatt died suddenly of a heart attack in the home of his son, where he lived. Attending the funeral from a distance were his son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Piatt, of Newburg, Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Washburn and David of Reville, South Dakota, and Mrs. Larry Gregory of Polo, Missouri.
