LUCILLE ROSE JUNKIN

Lucille Rose Junkin, daughter of P. E. and Maude DeClerq Rose, was born in Madison county near De Soto, Iowa, September 14, 1892. With the exception of a short time spent in South Dakota, she grew to womanhood in this area. She graduated from the DeSoto High School and the Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, where she was later employed until her marriage to Mac W. Junkin on April 8, 1914.

For 42 years they lived on a farm in Penn township before moving to their present home in Earlham in 1958. Here they were privileged to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1964.

A devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Junkin nevertheless found time for activities outside her home. She was a faithful member of the Earlham Presbyterian church, and had served as a deaconess, Sunday School teacher, and officer in the Women’s Organization. She was also a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Chautauqua Club, having served as its president in 1965. Her cheerful personality, her quiet helpfulness, and her unusual consideration for the aged endeared her to her family and friends.

Following an illness of only a few days, she died at the Dexter hospital August 16, 1966, at the age of 73.

Survivors besides her husband include three daughters and a son: Janice Junkin, Coco Solo, Panama Canal Zone; Judith Binns, Plantation Isles, Florida; Sheryl Bobst and Frank E. Junkin, both of Earlham. Twelve grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive, as do two sisters and a brother; Mrs. Peter Anderson, Des Moines; Mrs. Harold Ganoe, Jefferson, Iowa; and Russell Rose, Jefferson City, Missouri.
