H. C. HUSTED KILLED BY SHOTGUN BLAST

Gun Discharges Accidentally Fatally Wounding Well Known Farmer

H. C. Husted, one of the most widely known residents of Madison county, was fatally wounded last Thursday morning when a shotgun he was carrying accidently discharged as he stepped through a gate.

Mr. Husted had gone to the house for his gun to shoot a stray dog in the farm lot. As he stepped through the gate coming out, the strong wind whipped it against the firearm. The impact caused the weapon to discharge, and the charge struck him in the abdomen.

He was taken to the Winterset hospital where he died that afternoon.

Mr. Husted was a life-long resident of Madison county, and was a brother of State Senator O. E. Husted of St. Charles. He was educated at Iowa State Teachers college in Cedar Falls, and for many years was cashier of the First National bank of Winterset. He also served two terms as Madison county clerk.

Mr. Husted is survived by his wife; a son, John Husted of Marshalltown; four daughters, Mrs. Wheeler Ingham of Kansas, Mrs. Ruth Lyons of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Ella Callison of Winterset and T. E. Husted of St. Charles; and a number of grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Saturday with a requiem low mass from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. William Hahessy. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
