DEATH OF MRS. EVERETT DURAND

Mrs. Everett Durand was found dead in her bed, at her home near St. Charles, early Monday morning, July 21st. Mrs. Durand had been in poor health for a couple of years, but was not thought to have been worse than usual on Sunday. She stated that she felt all right when she was getting ready for bed. When her husband awakened at four o'clock, he found that she had died.

Mrs. Durand formerly lived in Des Moines. She leaves her husband and two small daughters. Her funeral services were held at the Methodist church in St. Charles, Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. More details of her life will be published in the mortuary in the next issue of the Madisonian.

MORTUARY

Marion Lucille Smith was born March 20, 1898, at Des Moines, Iowa and departed this life at her home near St. Charles, July 21, 1930, at the age of 32 years, 4 months and 1 day. She was the daughter of Orie F. and Martha Ann Smith, of Des Moines. She attended the public schools in Des Moines, and was graduated from West Des Moines high school in 1918.

On June 19, 1918, she was united in marriage to Everett G. Durand, and they established their home on a farm southwest of St. Charles. To this union were born two children, Martha Louise and Maribelle.

At the age of twelve years she became a member of the University Church of Christ, and after her marriage transferred her membership to the M. E. church at St. Charles. She was a devoted wife and mother, and although her health had been poor for a number of years, she was anxious to do more for others than her strength would permit.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 174, at St. Charles.

Her father preceded her in death in January, 1915. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and children, Martha Louise, age 8, and Maribell, age 4; her mother, Martha Ann Smith, of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. Wilma Hoppe, of Highland Park, Illinois, and Mrs. Dorothy Forsythe, of Chicago, Illinois, and a brother, Walter H. Smith, of Des Moines, besides a host of friends and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at the St. Charles Methodist church Wednesday, July 23 at 1:30 o'clock, and were conducted by Rev. F. G. Barnes. Burial was made in the Scotch Ridge cemetery.
