DEATH OF SIMON W. FOX

Funeral services for Simon W. Fox, a native of this community and a resident here for many years, were held from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Tuesday and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery. The services were in charge of the Rev. R. C. Cully, pastor of the Presbyterian church.

The death of Mr. Fox occurred at El Paso, Texas, last Saturday. He had gone there to spend the winter, from his home in Greeley, Colorado.

Simon Fox was born February 2, 1866 in Madison county, growing to manhood here. For many years he was associated with his brother, Luther Fox, in Winterset, and with his brother, J. L. Fox, was later in the real estate business in Palo Alto, California. Following this he operated a chain of mercantile stores in Weld county, Colorado. For the past few years, he had been retired.

He is survived by his widow; five children, Mrs. Frank Howe of Ithaca, New York, Mrs. W. R. Caldwell of Phoenix, Arizona, Miss Irene Fox of El Paso, Texas, Mrs. E. D. Wilkins of Indianapolis, Indiana, and J. Gerald Fox of Greeley; and a brother, Luther Fox.

RITES HELD HERE – FORMER RESIDENT

Simeon Fox, 69, died New Year’s day in El Paso, Texas, following a cerebral hemorrhage. He had been in apparent good health preceding his demise.

Mr. Fox and two brothers, John and Luther, for a number of years conducted a grocery store on the north side of the square. After leaving here about thirty years ago Simeon Fox went to Boulder, Colorado, and then to Greeley, Colorado, where he has made his home. He was owner of a chain of western stores, retiring about three years ago. With Mrs. Fox, formerly Bird Bell, of Winterset, he was spending the winter in Texas where they were accustomed to go each year.

In addition to Mrs. Fox is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Frank B. Howell, of Ithaca, New York; Mrs. W. R. Valdwell, but Phoenix, Arizona; Miss Irene Fox, of El Paso, Texas; Mrs. E. D. Wilkins, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and a son, J. Gerald Fox, of Greeley, Colorado.

Services were held in Winterset Tuesday morning at eleven o’clock at the Ramsey – Richards funeral home, conducted by the Rev. R. C. Cully, with burial in the Winterset cemetery. Mrs. Fox, Miss Fox, Mrs. Wilkins, and J. Gerald Fox came to Winterset for the services.
