CHAS. O. MURPHY

Chas. O. Murphy was born in Burcass County, Ill. Dec. 19th, 1868, and died at his home south of Dexter July 5, 1919, aged 50 years, 6 months and 17 days.

He was one of a family of five children. The family moved to Iowa in the spring of 1871 and settled on a farm one-half mile west of Penn Center. Here he grew to manhood, received his education and formed his friendships.

Feb. 24th, 1892 he was married to Miss Silvia L. Marston, who survives him. Two brothers also remain, namely George, of Earlham, and a twin brother, Robert, of Dexter and an adopted sister Mrs. Frank Morgan of Stuart.

Mr. Murphy was a life-long member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and a faithful, influential Christian Steward, occupying official relations with the church and found delight in all the services of God's House, a generous contributor to all the work of the Church. His devotion to his wife, his home, his church knew no bounds. He loved everybody, every living creature - all God's handiwork was his delight. Not a murmur nor complaint escaped his lips and the patience, submissiveness and fortitude which he manifested were a constant inspiration to all who came in contact with him. It was a real joy to minister to his daily wants, as he was so appreciative of every kindness shown him. His sickness extended through many months, but he bore it all with Christian resignation. The last few days his face was lit with a Heavenly smile and his heart so full of song that all his conscious moments revealed the Heavenly vision. His death was triumphant. "For him to live was Christ; to die was gain."

A largely attended funeral service was held at the Penn Center Church Tuesday afternoon conducted by Rev. E. E. Ilgenfritz. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. The body was laid to rest in "God's Acre" adjoining the church.

The bereaved ones will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends.
