MORTUARY

Vernon Clyde Hoadley

Vernon Clyde Hoadley, oldest son of Willard C. and Anna E. Hoadley, was born in Adair county on the 28th day of February 1885 and died at his home in Madison township, Madison county, January 3, 1919 at the age of 33 years 10 months and 5 days after a week’s illness, with influenza and pneumonia Thursday night at midnight. Hemorrhages set in which caused his death Friday about two o’clock.

Clyde moved with his parents from Adair county to Penn township, Madison county when but a small boy where he spent most of his life until nine years ago when he with his mother moved to the farm where he lived at the time of his death. Clyde was left at the age of ten years by the death of his father, to help care for his widowed mother and the younger members of the family unto which he was always ready and willing to do all he could for them.

When eighteen years of age he united with the Christian church at Early Chapel to which he remained a consistent member. His faith was shown by the scriptures marked in his own hand writing which was found in his Bible. St. Mathews 6.14 and 15 verses, “Forgive if ye forgive men their trespasses neither will your Father forgive yours.” Also in St. Mark 11 from the 25th and 26th verses, “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any; that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in Heaven forgive you.

He was united in marriage to Miss Daisy Wilson on April 22, 1914. Besides his wife he leaves to mourn an aged mother, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Taylor, Mrs. Effie England and one brother, John E. who is in France, three little nieces and one nephew besides a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at the home Sunday morning at 10:30, Rev. Eppard being the pastor expected for the service but on account of the uncertainty of the roads, he was unable to attend and Mr. S. W. Welch conducted the services very fittingly. Interment was in Earlham cemetery.

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors who so kindly helped us in our great need and time of sorrow, also for the beautiful floral offerings.
Mrs. Daisy Hoadley
