Gaile M. Creger, former Winterset resident, and son of Mr. and Mrs. J.M.E. Creger of this community, was fatally burned last Friday in an explosion which occurred in a honey processing plant he was operating near Dakota City, Neb.
The unexplained explosion occurred with a flash flame that wrecked the building and burned Creger fatally. He was rushed to a hospital in Sioux City where he died 14 hours later on last Saturday
Mr. Creger was born and spent his early years in this community. He attended the Winterset public schools and continued his education at Notre Dame university and Iowa State college at Ames.
He was a veteran of World War I, having served as a sergeant in the 168th Infantry regimental band of the Rainbow division. Prior to that, he had served with the 3rd Iowa Infantry regimental band on the Mexican border in 1916 and 1917.
For the past 20 years he had been employed in Sioux City as branch manager of the G. B. Lewis company of Watertown, Wis.
He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Donna Marie, both of Dakota City, a son, Gene of the U.S. Navy; his parents of Winterset; and a brother, Fonda W. Creger, also of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Wescott Funeral home at Sioux City, and this Tuesday in Winterset from the Anderson Funeral home. The local services were in charge of the Rev. Arthur Mortenson, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Winterset, with which he had united in his youth.
The pall bearers were all former comrades in the 168th. Infantry regiment. They were A. E. Null, Melvin Jones, John K. Sawyer, Arthur Strong, Oren Adams and James Silliman. Burial was made in the cemetery at Murray.

Gaile M. Creger, A Former Resident Died In A Sioux City Hospital
Gaile M. Creger, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. E. Creger and brother to F. W. Creger of this city, died at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa, Saturday from burn suffered preceding day when an explosion wrecked and burned a honey processing plant he operated near Dakota City, Nebraska.
Gaile was born in Madison county March 10, 1891, and received his education in the Winterset public schools. He also attended Notre Dame University and Iowa State College at Ames.
He was a veteran of the first world war, serving as band sergeant in the hundred and 168th Infantry band of the Rainbow division and was also in the third Iowa Infantry band on the Mexican border in 1916–17. For the past twenty years he had been employed in Sioux City as branch manager of the G. B. Lewis Company of Watertown, Wisconsin.
Funeral services were conducted first at his home Sunday and then his body was brought here for services Tuesday afternoon at the Anderson Funeral Home and interment was made in the Murray cemetery. Six members of Company A of the 168th Infantry served as pallbearers. They were A. E. Null, Jack Adams, Art Strong, John Sawyer, Melvin Jones and James Silliman.
Besides his wife, Mr. Creger is survived by two children, Donna Marie of Dakota city and Gene, now a member of the U.S. Navy, stationed at Farragut, Idaho; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. E. Creger and brother, F. W. Creger.
Those attending the services from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Glen Tomlinson and Frank Tomlinson of Payton, Ia.; Jeanne Niemeyer of Dakota city, DeLores Fredrickson of South Sioux City, Mrs. John Donner and daughter of Murray, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Loy of Lorimor, Mrs. Charles Donner of Murray and Mrs. Robert Garrett Lorimor.
