Solomon Weaver, son of Andrew and Sarah Weaver was born at Richmond, Jefferson County, Ohio, April 1st,1840, departed this life June 29, 1923 at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 28 days.
He was the last survivor of six children. He came to Madison County, Iowa in 1854. The following year he went to Des Moines where he was employed by the Stage Company, first as a mail carrier, and later as a driver working at different times beween Colfax and Des Moines, and between Des Moines and Council Bluffs seeing pioneer life in Iowa in every form until December 1861 when he enlisted in Company F 4th Iowa Cavalry and served until the close of the war.
In 1868 he came to Earlham near which place he resided until the last few years of his life which he spent with his daughter near Redfield and his son at Adair.
On December 10, 1872 he was married to Frances J. Mendenhall who died August 5, 1893. To this union three children were born all of whom survive him. In April 1895 he was married to Mary James who died in 1915.
In childhood he was baptised in the Methodist Church. In 1875 he joined the United Brethern Church at Pleasant Hill. During his last illness he expressed his belief in God and his willingness to go when the final summons came.
He leaves to mourn his loss his three children, Hattie B. Johnson and Wm. L. Weaver of Redfield, and Orville E. Weaver, of Adair, one granddaughter Frances Weaver and a host of friends
The funeral service was conducted Monday afternoon at the Friends Church at Earlham, conducted by Rev. E. S. MacCartney of Adair. The G.A.R. held their ritualistic services at the grave. Interment at the Earlham Cemetery.
