DEATH CALLS AGED PATTERSON COUPLE

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Folwell Die Within Five Days of Each Other

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Folwell of Patterson, one of Madison county’s oldest married couples, both died during the past week, within five days of each other. Both were 85 years of age and had been in frail health for some time.

They had been married just 64 years. Mrs. Folwell was buried last Saturday, on her sixty-fourth wedding anniversary.

The death of Mrs. Folwell occurred at their home in Patterson last Thursday. She was the former Martha Helen Kinnaird, daughter of Elijah and Malinda Kinnaird, and was born February 27, 1854 in Metcalf county, Kentucky, and came with her parents to Madison county, where they settled on a farm near St. Charles.

Mr. Folwell was born in Madison county, September 11, 1854, the son of Thomas and Hannah Folwell, and had been a life-long resident of the county. As a young man he was a farmer, but most of his active years were spent as a rural mail carrier out of Patterson. He also served for several years as postmaster at Patterson.

They are survived by three sons and four daughters: Mrs. Pearl Howell of Winterset, Mrs. Winnie Kieth of Des Moines, Frank Folwell of Des Moines, Roy Folwell of Patterson, Floyd Folwell of Des Moines, Mrs. Etta Riley of Winterset, and Mrs. Dulcie Dyer of Des Moines. Their two eldest children, Mrs. Lela Forbes and Bessie Folwell, preceded their parents in death. They also leave 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Saturday from the Patterson Methodist church for Mrs. Folwell, and burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery. The rites for Mr. Folwell will be held at 2 p.m., this Friday, also from the Patterson Methodist church.
