Myrtle Elizabeth Lane was born in Madison county, Iowa, July 18, 1873 and died at her home in Winterset, October 20, 1917, her age being 44 years, 3 months and 2 days.

She was the daughter of the Mrs. Lane who for so many years had charge of the primary department of the Winterset public schools. Many of the leading business men and their wives were children in those days and gratefully remember her for the patient and inspiring words and example of this estimable and talented lady. Myrtle, who was a small child in those days had many of those trials that characterize the mother.

She was married to G. W. Hann at her home in Greenfield, Iowa, on June 4, 1902 and to this union were born two children, Norma Elizabeth and Paul Markley. Early in childhood she made a profession of religion and united with the U. P. church at Greenfield. After her marriage she removed her membership by letter to the M.E. church at East Peru and after moving to Winterset she transferred her membership to the M.E. church where she remained a faithful member until her death.

She leaves to mourn her loss the husband, two children, Norma and Paul, also two step children, Clyde and Bess, to whom she was always loving and kind. Also her uncles, John McClellan, of East Peru, A. M. Johnson, of La Junta, Colorado, A. C. Johnson and family of Winterset, other relatives and a large circle of friends. She leaves behind the memory of a beautiful Christian character which will live only in the lives of all who knew her. The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon a short one being held at the home at one p.m. and then a funeral service at the M.E. church in East Peru, conducted by the Rev. Jackson Giddens, her pastor at Winterset, after which the mortal remains were laid to rest in the East Peru cemetery.
