Obituary of E. E. Cook

Eddy Elliott Cook, the oldest son of George L. and Sabrina A. Cook, was born in Grand Isle county, Vermont, Dec. 22, 1845 and came to Clayton county, Iowa with his parents in May 1846. He came to Madison county about 44 years ago and has resided here continuously up to the time of his death which occurred on Jan. 1, 1912. His age being 66 years and 10 days.

He was united in marriage in 1874 to Olive Trindle who survives him. He also leaves to mourn, one sister, Mrs. Alice C. Hays of Algona, Iowa and four brothers, William C. Cook of Arlington, Nebr., L. W. Cook of Lincoln, Nebr., Eugene M. of Benson, Nebr., and Frank E. of Van Meter, Iowa, besides a very wide circle of friends.

He was well known, a kind citizen, an obliging neighbor, a success in this life's profession, veterinary surgeon. He was ever ready to help the poor and needy, no road too dark or too rough to travel if he was needed. The community has lost in his death an excellent citizen.

The funeral services were held at Union Chapel U. B. church three miles south of Booneville on Jan. 3rd, conducted by the pastor of the church, Rev. D. W. Swender. A large audience was present to pay a tribute of respect to their fellow citizen. Interment was made in the cemetery by the church.

The people of northeast Madison county will miss Elliott Cook, whose death occurred on Monday of last week and is reported by our Jefferson correspondence. Mr. Cook was one of the older settlers in this part of the county. He was a man of untiring energy, plain spoken in his speech, pronounced in his opinions, but possessed that rugged type of honest sincerity that gathered the admiration of even those who disagreed with him on matters of opinion. His influence was for good and will remain in the community in which he lived, for years to come.
