MR. AND MRS. JAMES ACHESON DIE LAST WEEK

Husband and Wife, Former Webster Township Residents, Dies Within Four Days

Mr. and Mrs. James Acheson, former Madison county residents, have both died during the past week at Osceola. Mr. Acheson died Thursday and his funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Osceola, last Saturday. Mrs. Acheson was ill, with a severe cold at the time, and heart trouble developed and she was taken to the hospital where she died on Sunday. Her funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Acheson who was 70 years of age, and his wife, the former Etta Wilson, who was 68 years, lived in Madison county for a number of years. They left Webster township twenty-four years ago. They are survived by their two children: Oliver of Burlington and Mrs. Anna Davis, of Des Moines. Mr. Acheson is survived by a brother, Lem Acheson and a sister, Mary Acheson of Winterset, and she is survived by a sister and a brother here: Coates Wilson and Mrs. Rollin Walker.

Etta Belle, daughter of J. W. and Ellen Wilson, was born at North English, April 2, 1870, and departed this life at an Osceola hospital January 8, 1939, at the age of 68 years, 9 months, and 6 days. Her girlhood was spent in the vicinity of North English. Later she moved with her parents to Madison county.

She was united in marriage with James E. Acheson in the year of 1889. To this union were born two children, Oliver G. and Anna S.

She was converted at the age of 14 to the Methodist church, and sanctified in 1904, and since that time has been active in church work and was a member of the Methodist church at the time of her death. With her husband and family she moved to Clarke county in 1912 and had resided there ever since.

Her husband preceded her in death by only four days. As long as her strength would permit she nursed her husband, during his last illness. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always wanting to do something for her loved ones.

Those she leaves to mourn are one son, O. G. Acheson of Burlington, Iowa; one daughter, Mrs. Anna Davis of Des Moines; five grandchildren, one great granddaughter; three sisters, Mrs. Susie Walker of Winterset, Mrs. Mary Greenfield of University Park, and Mrs. Anna Drake of Oskaloosa, Iowa; four brothers, George of Oskaloosa, Coats of Winterset, John of South Dakota and Max of Portland, Oregon.

Two brothers, Charles and William preceded her in death. She also leaves a host of other friends.
