Mr. Compton arose early Monday morning and went out to chore. When he did not return at the regular time a search was launched and his body was discovered in the barn.

Frank Compton was found dead Monday morning in the barn at his farm home three miles east of Earlham. A wound in the abdomen from a .410 gauge shotgun was the cause of death which Coroner Veltman and Sheriff Null termed suicide after their investigation. He was 68 years old.

Mr. Compton had done his morning chores as usual but when he failed to return to the house his sister-in-law, Miss Amanda Peterson went to look for him. The body was found at about nine o’clock. It was lying, gun beside it. Mr. Compton’s cap and two boxes of shells were on the seat of a farm implement nearby.

Dr. H. E. Carver was called to the home and the sheriff and coroner were summoned later.

Mrs. Compton has been in poor health and Mr. Compton had not been well. They recently sold their farm to Phil Duff and were planning to move to Earlham.

Services in charge of Rev. Reece and the Masonic lodge are planned to be held at the Friends church Sunday afternoon at two o’clock. Interment will be in the Earlham cemetery.
