TAKEN SICK SATURDAY MORNING WITH AN ATTACK OF NEURALGIA OF THE HEART
J. E. Poland, well known retired farmer, died suddenly Saturday evening of neuralgia of the heart at the Poland home south of the square. He had not been real well for several months but was able to be out and was up town most of the day. Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon.
James Edwin Poland was born at Melrose, Monroe County, Iowa, April 30th, 1868 and died at his home in Winterset, April 12th, 1919. His early boyhood was spent in and near Des Moines afterward moving to Calhoun County, where he grew to manhood.
He was married at the age of 24 to Margaret Gibbons at Fort Dodge, they moving to Madison County 17 years ago on a farm near Pitzer where they lived for several years. While there he united with the United Presbyterian Church.
For the last few years he has lived in and around Winterset where he was engaged in the land business.
He was the father of four children, Curtis E., Iona M., James Williard, who still survive, and Victor Noel who died at the age of three months. He leaves to mourn his loss besides his family, a mother, seven sisters and two brothers, (this being the first break in the family circle) and one little grandson, Philip Herman Poland.
He was a dutiful son and a good, generous neighbor, who will be greatly missed and was easy to make friends wherever he lived. His home life was the pleasantest could be, where he was a most devoted, loving husband and was happiest when he was with his family, where he will now be sadly missed.
Funeral services were held at the home on Tuesday at 2:30 conducted by Rev. Jackson Giddens.
