Wednesday, October 18, 1939EVERETT E. SMITH IS KILLED IN CAR CRASH
Everett Ernest Smith, former Madison county resident, was killed Saturday morning, when his car crashed into a Northwestern train at a crossing in Grand Junction, Ia. It is thought that frost on the windshield prevented his seeing the approaching train.
Mr. Smith who was 38 years of age, had spent most of his life in Madison county, and had moved to Grand Junction a year ago, when he accepted a position as a salesman for the H. H. Turner Hybrid Seed Corn company of that town.
He was a son of Frank and Ruth Smith, and was born in Union county, July 22, 1906. The most of his life was spent in Madison county. In 1935 he was married to Sylvia Hegwood, and they are the parents of one son, Earl Ernest, aged two years.
The immediate family so unexpectedly bereft are the wife and son, his mother, and father, two brothers, Clarence of Paton, Lee at home, and one sister, Mrs. Laura Hess of Winterset.
The Rev. L. F. Davis conducted his funeral services, which were held at the Fellowship church southwest of Winterset, Sunday, at 1:30 p.m., and burial was made in the Clark cemetery.
