ROY WILLIAM FRY

Roy William Fry, son of James W. and Mary Elizabeth Fry, was born at Dexter, Iowa on October 3, 1889, and died at the Madison Manor nursing home at Winterset on November 30, 1971. Roy lived his entire life in this area.

He was married in 1912 to Lulu Belle Bilderback, who preceded him in death in 1961. Their children survive them. They are Mrs. Marie Standing of Earlham; Robert B. Fry of Oxnard, California; Mrs. Kathryn Stumpenhorst of Des Moines; Charles W. Fry and Mrs. Mary Boyle of Earlham. A sister, Mrs. Nellie Peterson of Carlisle also survives, along with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Roy worked as a skilled machinist and mechanic during most of his life. He also served the Town of Earlham for many years operating and maintaining the municipal water system.

Roy was the oldest member in years of service on the Earlham Volunteer Fire Department and was the volunteer fireman with the longest term of service in the State of Iowa. A plaque was recently presented to Roy by the Earlham firemen in recognition of this service.

A source of great pleasure and pride to Roy in his later years were his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He enjoyed keeping abreast of the progress in the various fields of engineering along with interests in gardening and fishing.

Services were held December 3, at 10:00 a.m., at the Evans Funeral Home in Earlham. Rev. D. Ward Young officiated. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
