SAM WILLIAMS, 70, DIES AT MARSHALLTOWN

Body Brought To Winterset For Burial In Local Cemetery

Sam Williams, a former Madison county resident, died at his home in Marshalltown Sunday, June 19. He was 70 years old and had been ill the last two years.

He is survived by his wife, the former Carrie Newerf of Winterset; and a daughter, Mrs. Henrietta Hansen of Marshalltown.

Funeral services were held at Marshalltown and the body was brought here Wednesday of last week for burial in the Winterset cemetery. Grave-side services here were in charge of the Rev. W. P. Gordon, pastor of the Winterset United Presbyterian church.

Samuel H. Williams Dead in 71st Year; Services Wednesday

Samuel Howard Williams, 70, of 405 North First avenue, died at his home at 9 p. m. Sunday after a lingering illness.

He was born April 17, 1879 in Warnocks, Ohio, the son of John William and Anne Satterthwaite Williams. When he was young the family moved to Winterset, where he grew to manhood. On July 1, 1905 he was married in Winterset to Christina Neiuwerf. They resided in Winterset until 1925 at which time they came to Marshalltown and have lived here continuously since that time.

Mr. Williams was a veteran salesman. He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers of America and held the city office of secretary and treasurer for 20 years. He was past president of the international Secretary and Treasurers Association and was passed great ruler of the Bagmen.

He was a member of the First Congregational church and B. P. O. E. No. 312.

Preceding him in death were two sons, Samuel Howard II, and Nicholas, who died in infancy.

Surviving are his widow and a daughter, Mrs. Milton Hanson, both of Marshalltown.

Private services will be held at the Estel funeral home at 8 a. m. Wednesday in charge of Doctor Pieter Smit. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral on Tuesday.
