MARTHA WHITT DIED MONDAY

Came to Madison County From Missouri in 1861

Mrs. Martha Whitt, who came to Madison county in 1861, died Monday at the home of her nephew, Fred Wright of Winterset. She was 89 years of age.

Mrs. Whitt was a native of Missouri, where she was born March 27, 1860, the daughter of John and Martha Moore. When she was a year old she came with her parents to Iowa, and the remainder of her life was spent in this section.

She was married Jan. 6, 1874, to Loftus White. They were the parents of three children, all of whom preceded the mother in death. Mr. White also died many years ago.

Her second marriage occurred July 5, 1899, to N. B. Whitt. His death occurred in 1941.

Surviving are 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted from Andersons home for funerals Wednesday, in charge of the Rev. F. D. Worden, pastor of the Winterset Baptist church. Burial was made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery north of Winterset.
