August 1972GEORGIA WILSON
Georgia Joy Fleming was born April 15, 1909 in Penn Township, Earlham, Iowa. She was the daughter of Marion and Sadie Fleming. The family moved to near-by communities then eventually settled on a farm north of Earlham and this was their home for many years.
Georgia attended school at Earlham and graduated with the class of 1929. She spent one year in Earlham Junior College then later completed a course in cosmetology. For a short while, she operated her own shop in Earlham.
She was married to Hugh A. Wilson on March 21, 1934 and they made their home in the Earlham community until 1940. They lived for a number of years in Illinois and Wisconsin and after the death of her parents, they returned to where they have resided since February 1967.
Georgia’s health was such that she withdrew from society but enjoyed the beauty of flowers and nature from the windows of her home and on rare occasions would step outside the door to partake of the fragrance of flowers near by. She received much pleasure by starting her day listening to a sermon and religious music by way of the radio. She was a member of the Earlham Friends church.
She became seriously ill on Saturday and entered the Des Moines General Hospital the following day. Her death occurred on Monday morning, July 31, at the age of 63 years, 3 months and 16 days.
Georgia is survived by her husband, Hugh and a brother, Arthur Fleming, several nieces, nephews, two brothers-in-laws and cousins.
