Wednesday, February 10, 1960HAROLD BAKER DIES AT AGE OF 30 YEARS
Harold E. Baker, formerly of the Barney community, died Jan. 24 at the U.S. Naval hospital at San Diego, Calif.; it was learned here this week. He was 30 years of age.
The young man was the son of Rufus and Mary Baker of near Barney. He spent his early life near Barney and Peru, and enlisted in the U. S. navy in 1948. He continued in the service until his death, and had risen to the rank of B.M. 3/c
In addition to his parents, he leaves five brothers and nine sisters; Charles of Tracy, California, Florence Stifel of Selah Wash., Ruth Bush of Anabel, Mo., Aletia McChesney of Norwalk, Russell Baker, Grace Carter, Wanda Dykes, Katie Patterson, Hazel Knouf, all of Des Moines, Elsie Allen of St. Charles, Earl of Peru, Edna Morey, Floyd and Clarence of Macksburg.
Funeral services were held Feb. 1 from the Peru Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Mr. Lockhart, with military honors. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
