Thursday, July 28, 1949Miss Paula Frieda Lilie, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. C. Lilie of Van Meter, Iowa was born on August 27, 1911 at Persia, Iowa and departed this life on July 12, 1949, at Los Angeles, California.
She was baptized in early infancy in Trinity Lutheran church of Persia, Iowa. At the age of 10 (in the month of June, 1921) she removed with her parents and other members of her family to Van Meter. Here she was confirmed on April 5, 1925.
She attended high school at Van Meter, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1928.
After finishing a business course at the University of Commerce in Des Moines, she was employed as secretary at the Chamberlain Laboratories in Des Moines until 1941, when she removed to California. Since 1942 she has held a very responsible position in the employ of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation at Los Angeles.
She was at all times deeply interested in her church and availed herself of many opportunities to render much noble service to her Lord. She was instrumental in organizing a Young Peoples Society at Van Meter, an organization which now calls itself the Walther League. She served as Sunday School teacher, sang in various church choirs. While living in Des Moines she was affiliated with Trinity Lutheran church of that city.
Though suffering from an organic heart condition for many years, she always was a very active and diligent worker, and was never to tired or too busy to render some kind and unselfish service for her many friends. In spite of all she did for others, however, she always remained very humble and unassuming.
On Tuesday, July 12, she did not report for work, and upon investigation was found to have succumbed to a heart attack sometime during the night. She thus brought her age to 37 years, 10 months and 16 days.
A service was held in her honor at Los Angeles on Thursday, July 14, which was conducted by Pastor Th. Schoessow of Calvery Lutheran church of Beverly Hills.
There remain to survive her early departure her parents, Pastor and Mrs. C. Lilie; two brothers, Carl of St. Marys, Ohio, and the Rev. Marvin Lilie of Churdan, Iowa; and three sisters, Miss Clara Lilie of Des Moines; Mrs. Alma Erickson of Lorimor, Iowa and Mrs. Anita Vox of Des Moines.
May the Lord graciously and effectively comfort these survivors and us all with his own true and abiding comfort.
