Native of Madison County Died in Des Moines River Last Week
The body of Roy L. Myers of Portland, Ore., a native of this county was found in the Des Moines river last Wednesday afternoon. He had been staying at a Des Moines hotel, and on Tuesday had written letters to his children, advising them that he would take his own life by drowning.
Mr. Myers was 69 years of age. He was born June 14, 1879, the son of Candace and Jacob Myers, near Earlham, and his early life was spent in and around Winterset. He had lived in Portland for about 40 years.
In childhood he had become a member of the Fairview church, north of Winterset and in later life affiliated with the Christian Scientist denomination.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Helen Turner of Atlantic; a son, Phil Myers of Anita; four grandchildren; two brothers, Charlie Myers of Ambrose, N. Dak., and Carl Myers of Los Angeles, Calif., and two sisters, Mrs. L. A. Oldham of Winterset and Mrs. Herb G. Garrett of Creston.
Funeral services were held here last Friday from the Anderson home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. I. E. Linkletter, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Fairview cemetery.
