DEATH OF MRS. BETTY CARTER

Mrs. Betty Carter, widow of the late Alex Carter, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. S. Knight of St. Charles last Thursday.

Mrs. Carter, who has been in poor health for a long time was stricken Sunday while visiting her daughter, and she grew gradually worse, dying four days later, Thursday evening at 4 o’clock. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock and burial was made at Blair Chapel.

The deceased is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Minta Nuzum of Des Moines, Mrs. Knight of St. Charles, and one son, Walker Carter near Hanley.

Mrs. Carter came to this county when she was a girl with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Walkup. Since that time she has made her home on what is known as “Brush Ridge.” She was 78 years of age at the time of her death.

St. Charles

Mrs. Betty Carter, who has been in failing health for a long time, died at her home in St. Charles September 16th. She had been living on her farm west of town, but some time ago she moved to town so she could be better cared for.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church last Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. E. George and her remains were laid to rest in the Blair Chapel cemetery by the side of her husband, who preceded her in death a few years ago.

She leaves two sisters, Mrs. Belle Pixler of this place, and Mrs. Maxwell of Winterset; three children, Mrs. Arminta Nuzum of Des Moines, Mrs. Georgia Knight of St. Charles, Walkup Carter of St. Charles; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
