OBITUARY

Elwood D. Seerley

Elwood D. Seerley departed this life at the Seerley home Thursday, Dec. 3rd., 1925. He was seriously ill but for a few hours. However he had been in ill health much of his life, and during the past summer suffered intensely at times. All of this he bore most patiently and uncomplainingly. He was born Nov. 21st, 1859, just a few years after his parents, William and Mary Seerley, settled here. His birthplace was a log cabin very near the present house, five miles south-east of Earlham. Here with the parents and brothers and sisters he went through the many hardships of the early pioneer life, and belongs among the early residents of this community.

Several brothers and sisters remain to share our sympathy in the loss of their beloved brother. They are: Marcellus, of Grand Island, Nebraska; Baird of Greenfield, Iowa; Frank, Charlie, Vick, William, Flora, Grace and Ida, who remain at home.

Mr. Seerley was of a quiet disposition, and contented himself with the affairs of the home. He was inclined to the Presbyterian faith, although he never became a member of the church. His many friends will remember him for his good habits and for his sterling character.

Interment took place in the Worthington cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. P. Fink, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Earlham, Sunday, Dec. 6th at Worthington Church.
