JOSEPH KIRBY OF WINTERSET DIES

Long-Time city Marshall in Winterset Dies at Age of 84 Years

Joseph H. Kirby, a Madison county resident for 82 years and member of a well-know family here, died Monday, May 6, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 84 years of age.

Mr. Kirby was a native of Linn county, Missouri, where he was born Sept. 30, 1872, a son of George and Chastina Dial Kirby. When he was two years of age he came to Madison county with his parents, and since then this community had been his home.

He was married as a young man to Dolly Chloe Lucas. They were parents of a daughter and three sons. The wife and mother died on June 24, 1949. He was later married to Nellie Harrison, she survives him.

As a young man he followed the occupation of farming. In later life he served as town marshall of Winterset for many years.

In addition to his wife, he leaves the daughter, Mrs. Lucile Clark of California; and three sons, Dale Kirby of Winterset; George Kirby of California, and Eugene Kirby of Winterset.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Warren Hile, pastor of the Winterset Christian church. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
