LONG TIME PENN CENTER FARMER DIES

Frank L. Fritz, a well known farmer in the Penn Center community for many years died April 22 at a nursing home near Winterset at the age of 90 years.

Mr. Fritz was born near Blakesburg, in Wapello county on Jan. 22, 1867, but had lived in Madison county since he was a young man. He farmed near Penn Center until 1940 when he moved into Earlham.

His wife, the former Sophia Schlarb, whom he married in 1893, preceded him in death. A niece, Edith Schlarb, whom he reared in his home, died in 1950.

Nearest surviving relative is a brother, Fred Fritz, of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held April 24 from the Earlham Methodist church conducted by the Rev. Anthony Blankers. Burial was made in the Penn Center cemetery.

Frank L. Fritz was born January 22, 1867 in Wapello county, Iowa near Blakesburg and died in a nursing home near Winterset, on April 22, 1957 at the age of ninety years and three months. He spent his childhood near Blakesburg, Churchville, and Norwalk, and when a young man moved with his parents to Madison county to a farm near Penn Center.

On March 2, 1893, he was united in marriage to Sophia Schlarb. They had not children of their own, but a niece, Edith Schlarb, came to live with them at six years of age. She made her home with them until her marriage to P. J. Wetrich. She passed away in 1953.

The Fritz family lived on a farm in the Penn Center neighborhood until 1940, when they moved to Earlham, where Mrs. Fritz passed away in March of 1950.

Mr. Fritz became a member of the Penn Center Methodist church at an early age. He and his wife attended church regularly when their health would permit. When they moved to Earlham, they transferred their memberships to the Earlham Methodist church. During the last years of his life, Mr. Fritz suffered from failing eyesight and was handicapped in his attendance at church and in getting about in the way he wished. He was pleasant, friendly, kind and helpful. He had many friends and enjoyed visiting with them.

Left to mourn his passing are one brother, Fred Fritz of Des Moines, several nieces and nephews, and P. J. Wetrich of Collins, Iowa, husband of Edith Schlarb who was reared in the Fritz home.
