Long-Time Merchant There dies at Age of 95 Years
John D. Callison, a leading citizen of Macksburg for many years, died at Macksburg last Saturday, April 27, at the age of 95 years.
Through most of his active life he had been a merchant in the Macksburg community.
He was a native of Leivasy, West Virginia, where he was born Dec. 18, 1861, a son of Thomas B and Martha Ann Davis Callison. His early years were spent in West Virginia, but he came west when he was 23 years old and settled in Iowa. His first work here was on a farm where the town of Lorimor now stands.
He attended business college in Des Moines, and later taught school north of Lorimor. He then farmed for two years, and after that obtained a job as a clerk in a Macksburg store. In 1895 he entered the mercantile business there for himself.
He was married May 1, 1892, to Ada Townsend. They raised a foster daughter in their home. The wife died many years ago.
His second marriage occurred July 11, 1935, to Iris Imboden, who survives him.
Early in life he had joined the Macksburg Baptist church. He served as mayor and justice of the peace in Macksburg, and long was active in church and community affairs.
In addition to his wife; he leaves a daughter, Thera Schultz of Macksburg; a brother Dr. Byrd Callison of Eagle Rock, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Bowers of Santa Monica, Calif.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Macksburg Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. C. M. Rowe and the Rev. E. K. Parrott. Burial was made in Moon cemetery at Macksburg.

Word was received here Saturday forenoon of the death of Mr. John D. Callison of Macksburg, who passed away quietly in his sleep Saturday morning. Mr. Callison was 95 years of age. Funeral services were held at the Macksburg Methodist church Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the Moon cemetery south of Macksburg. Some that attended the services from this community were Mr. and Mrs. Roy Imboden, Mrs. Jasper Lenocker, and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Imboden
