Life-Long Resident of This County Was 90 Years of Age
Mrs. Maggie James, one of Winterset's oldest residents, died Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Memorial hospital, following a brief illness. She was 90 years of age.
Mrs. James was a life-long resident of the county. She was born here Oct. 7, 1961, a daughter of William and Sarah Jane McConkey.
Her marriage to Almon James occurred Sept. 18, 1879. They were parents of one son, Ora Leonard James, who died in infancy. Her husband died in 1935.
Her early church affiliation was with the Oak Grove church. After moving to Winterset, she became a member of the First Baptist church. She was active in church work all her life, and had been a member of the Rebekah lodge here for more than 52 years.
Her nearest surviving relative is a niece, Mrs. Florence Gatzemeyer of Sioux City.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the First Baptist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Elmer McVety. Burial was made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery northeast of Winterset.
