FORMER RESIDENTS KILLED IN CRASH

Mr. and Mrs. John Worthing Lived in Winterset Years Ago

Double funeral services were held recently at Boulder, Colo., for Mr. and Mrs. John W. Worthing, both former residents of Winterset and Madison county.

Mr. and Mrs. Worthing died of injuries received in a head-on highway collision near Boulder. He was 65 years of age at the time of his death. His wife, the former Sarah Hannah Stiffler, was 61.

John Welch Worthing was born Oct. 10, 1885 in Jefferson county, Iowa. Mrs. Worthing was born here in Winterset on Oct. 10, 1890.

The couple was married on Oct. 10, 1906 in Winterset and resided here until 1920. Mr. Worthing operated a cigar manufacturing business here.

He resigned as captain of the Boulder police department on Feb. 4, 1947, after serving almost 20 years on the force.

Survivors of the couple include two sons, Richard and Jerald, both of Boulder, and a sister of Mr. Worthing, Mrs. Alta Queen of New Virginia. M. S. Creger of Truro is a nephew of Mr. Worthing.
