LEE BENNETT OF WINTERSET DIES

Life-Long Resident Was in Failing Health Past Three Months

Lee Bennett, a life-long resident of this community, died Saturday, Feb. 9, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elbridge Guye of near Winterset. He was 83 years of age, and had been in failing health the past three months.

Leander C. Bennett was born on a farm near Winterset Oct. 24, 1873, a son of Joshua and Nancy Bennett. He was married Jan. 15, 1900, to Elizabeth McMichael. They were parents of two daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Guye of Winterset, and Mrs. Elsie Miller of Des Moines.

Most of his life was spent in farming near Winterset, with the exception of the time he engaged in the livery business here. Failing health forced him to give up farming 24 years ago.

He joined the Fairview Methodist church in early life.

In addition to the two daughters, he leaves a grandson, Wayne Pritchard of Des Moines; a great granddaughter; a brother, Lute Bennett of Weiser, Ida,.; and two sisters, Mrs. Etna Haxton of Earlham and Mrs. Laura Bast of Stuart.

Funeral services were held from the Richards Funeral home Monday, conducted by the Rev. George DeF. Fisher, pastor of the First Presbyterian church here. Burial was made in Mt. Pelier cemetery near Patterson
