March 1948Joseph Zebedee was the son of John and Mary Ann Zebedee. He was born at De Soto, Iowa, February 14, 1872 and departed this life at his farm home, March 12, 1948. He leaves to mourn his departure, four nieces and nephews as follows: Joe Zebedee, Ed Libra and Annie Thurmer, all of Jackson, Minnesota; Mary Vrchota of Nora Springs, Iowa; Mary Lillian Himmelman, Des Moines, Iowa; Helen Himmelman, Swan, Iowa; and his foster sister and brother, Mrs. Verle Mark of Eureka, Illinois, and Harry L. Chesnutwood of Van Meter, Iowa. Besides his relatives and a host of friends and acquaintances to whom he was affectionatley known as neighbor Jo, who will miss his friendly greeting and sympathic manner for those who knew him found a soul who was a kind neighbor and loyal friend who stood for the fundamentals which are so necessary for a successful life.
After the death of his parents, Jo was taken at the age of 13 years into the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Chesnutwood where he was loved and cared for the same as their own children.
When he was 19 years of age he united with the Methodist church at De Soto, Iowa, then later transferred his membership to Earlham.
At the age of 21 years he went to the farm where he lived at the time of his death. He had been a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for 42 years.
This ends the story of a life well lived. Peace be to his memory.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Earlham, Monday, March 15 at 2 o'clock. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.
