Harris Delbert, son of Jeseph D. and Gunda Omit Countryman was born May 29, 1928 at Earlham, Iowa and passed away April 18, 1948. He moved with his parents to Tenstrike, Minnesota, at the age of three years.

Harris was baptized by the Lutheran church at Hagli township in Minnesota, September 25, 1932. He was a member of the Lutheran League until 1942.

He attended grade school at Hagli township school, finishing the eighth grade in 1942. The family moved back to Iowa in the fall of 1942 and Harris entered the Earlham Consolidated school where he was graduated with the class of 1946.

Since graduation he has worked with his father as a partner on various jobs.

He leaves in passing besides his parents, two brothers, D. Wayne and Ward, both at home. Besides the immediate family, he leaves three grandparents, numerous uncles, aunts, and cousines together with a host of friends.

The funeral services were held in the Earlham Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. C. A. Crouse, Tuesday, April 20, at 2:00 p.m. with interment in the Earlham cemetery.

Harris Countryman Died In Highway Accident

Harris Countryman, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Countryman, died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines after the motorcycle he was riding crashed into the side of a car driven by Ralph Linsley of Adel, Saturday night about 10:40 p.m.

Countryman and Dalton Slater were riding double, headed west and were about four miles west of Adel on No. 6 when the crash occurred.

The motorcycle crashed into the side of the auto, throwing Countryman, who was riding in front, into the side of the machine.

He was badly injured and died at the hospital about four hours after the accident.

Slater who was riding with him was taken to the hospital and treated for a broken hand, and other painful body bruises. He returned home from the hospital several days ago.

Wildon Standing, Countryman and Slater were in Adel just before the accident and were on their way to Redfield at the time it occurred. Standing was following behind on another motorcycle and estimated that they were going between 40 and 50 miles per hour.

Harris Countryman attended the Earlham school and graduated with the class of 1946.

Funeral services were held at the Earlham Methodist church Tuesday afternoon. Burial was in the Earlham cemetery.

He is survived by his father and mother and two brothers, Wayne and Ward.
