Was Born and Spent Entire Life on Homestead in Monroe Township
Benjamin E. Hartsook a well-known Madison county farmer and a life-long resident of the county, died at his farm home in Monroe township Sunday, April 25. He was 74 years of age.
Mr. Hartsook was the youngest son of Benjamin F. and Jane Blythe Hartsook, and was born on his parents' homestead in Monroe township, where he spent his entire life and where his death occurred. He was born Aug. 29, 1873.
His father died when he was a small child. For much of his active life, he and his brother Frank made a home for their mother on the home place, until her death in 1932. He and his brother, Frank, were constant companions until the latter's death in 1945.
Nearest surviving relatives are the sister-in-law, Mrs. Anna Hartsook, widow of an older brother, William Hartsook; a nephew, and two nieces.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Fellowship church in Monroe township, in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis of Winterset. Burial was made in the Hamblin cemetery in Monroe township.
