Dorothea M. Sawyers Died

Dorothea M. Sawyers, a longtime resident of Madison county, died at her home in Webster Township last Friday September 27. She was 55 years of age.

Dorothea Marie Sawyers was born in Warren County on December 2, 1918, the daughter of Ora E. and Lillie Dodson Norris.

Mrs. Sawyers graduated from Indianola High School in 1937. She later graduated from Comptometer School in Des Moines and received her wings as a member of the WASPS during World War II.

She was married to Carl Sawyers at Des Moines on December 10, 1950 and had lived in Madison County for the past 24 years.

Mrs. Sawyers was affiliated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors include her husband Carl of Winterset; a daughter, Cindy Sawyers of Des Moines; and a son, Steve Sawyers at home. Also surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ora E. Norris.

In addition, Mrs. Sawyers is survived by five brothers and four sisters; Earl and Carol Norris of Indianola; Gene Norris of Glendale, Arizona; Bob Norris of Altoona; Dudley Norris of Reeds Springs, Missouri; Mrs. Bernice Wambold of Indianola; Mrs. Fred Harlow of West Des Moines; Mrs. John Killiam of Des Moines; and Mrs. Henry Walker of Dallas, Texas. She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 30 at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Pastor Lester Jones officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
