MRS. RUTH SWEET DIES AT 90 YEARS

Born In Webster Township in 1856, She Always Lived There

Mrs. Ruth Sweet, 90-year-old life-time resident of Webster township, died last Saturday, Oct. 18, in the community where she had spent all of her four-score years and ten.

Mrs. Sweet was born in Webster township on Nov. 17, 1856 just a few years after the first settlers had staked out their claims in that community. She was the former Ruth Pope, daughter of Stephen and Eliza Pope, who were among the early settlers of the township. Her entire life was spent as a resident of Webster township.

In 1875, she was married to George Sweet. They were the parents of 13 children, five of whom preceded the mother in death. Her husband died about 25 years ago.

The other surviving children are: Oscar Sweet of Ladysmith, Wisc.; Oliver, Henry, and James Sweet of Winterset; Charley Sweet of Sioux City; Chauncey Sweet of Jolly; Mrs. Henry Wiggins of Toledo and Mrs. Joe Williard of Ore. She also leaves a large family of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held here Tuesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in charge of the Rev. Wilbur R. Watkins, pastor of the Winterset Church of Christ. Burial was in the Wight cemetery.
