The body of Pvt. Earl R. Smith, Jr., of St. Charles, who was killed in action in France during the recent war, was buried with military honors in the St. Charles cemetery, after being returned from overseas.
The burial services were held at St. Charles Dec. 12.
Private Smith had lived all his life in the St. Charles community before entering service. He was born there Jan. 3, 1925, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith. He attended the St. Charles school, graduating from high school there with the class of 1942. He had been a member of the Christian church there since childhood.
He entered service in the U.S. army in August, 1944, and took his training at Camp Fannin, Tex. He went overseas from there in January, 1945.
He is survived by his parents; a brother, Dean Smith, and his grandmother, Mrs. Ona Carter.
