RICHARD L . JONES FATALLY INJURED

Two Others Are Seriously Hurt in Collision West of Winterset

Richard L. Jones, 26, of Truro, was fatally injured, and a man and wife from Omaha are in serious condition, as result of an automobile collision on highway No. 92, 11 miles west of Winterset, Sunday afternoon.

Jones died at Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset about three hours after the accident. It was the third highway fatality of the year in this county.

The accident occurred about 3:15 p.m. Investigating officers said that for some unknown reason, Jones appeared to have lost control of his car. It was headed onto the shoulder on the wrong side of the road when it was struck broadside by a car driven by Kenneth Dunham, 35, a naval recruiting officer from Omaha.

Riding with Dunham was his 33-year-old wife.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Dunham were seriously, if not critically injured. He is reported to have received a fractured back and pelvis, in addition to severe head cuts and bruises. She received a fractured pelvis and knee-cap, and other injuries. Both were taken to Adair County hospital in Greenfield.

Both cars were demolished.

Jones was not married. He was the son of Mrs. Vern Shutt of Truro, who survives him.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the St. Charles Christian church. Burial was to be made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Funeral Wednesday For Crash Victum (Victim)

Richard L. Jones was buried last Wednesday in the St. Charles cemetery following funeral services conducted from the St. Charles Christian church.

Richard L. Jones, who was killed in a highway accident west of Winterset on Oct. 29, was born near Knoxville on July 15, 1931. He came to Madison county with his family when he was 5 years of age. He attended the St. Charles and Truro schools.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Vern Schutt; his stepfather; a sister, Elizabeth Shutt; all of Truro; a step-sister, Bernice Bruce of Lubbock, Tex.; and his grandmother, Mrs. Cora Boren of Indianola.
