PIONEER WOMAN DIES AT 99 YEARS

Mrs. Lena Jessup Came to this County by Covered Wagon in 1863

Mrs. Lena Jessup, a pioneer resident of Madison county, died Monday, Dec. 16, at a nursing home in Griswold, where she had been the past three years.

Mrs. Jessup was 99 years of age. Born in Illinois on April 1, 1858, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gotlup Mann, she had come to Madison county with her parents in 1863. That was during the Civil war, and the family by the trip by covered wagon.

She was married here to Ellis Jessup. They lived for many years in the Macksburg community. In 1950 she moved to Lewis to live with her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Jessup. Her husband, a daughter, and the son, Vernon preceded her in death.

She leaves seven grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 1:30 p.m. from the Macksburg Baptist church. Burial will be made in Moon cemetery at Macksburg.
