Mrs. William Jackson Buried at Earlham

Funeral services were held Dec. 16 from the Friends church in Earlham for Mrs. William Jackson, whose death had occurred Dec. 14 (1957) at the age of 86 years. Burial was made in the Earlham cemetery.

Mrs. Jackson was the mother, of Wallace Jackson of Earlham. Her death occurred at a Winterset nursing home.

Laura Barnett, the youngest of eleven children of Amos and Mary Mendenhall Barnett, was born September 16, 1871, in Madison county, Iowa. After five months of failing health spent in the Madison County Memorial hospital and the Laura Wilkinson Nursing Home, she died in her sleep on the night of December 14 at the Horton Nursing Home Infirmary to where she had just been moved that morning.

When a girl in her teens, she moved with her mother and family to Earlham after the death of her father.

On May 26, 1893 she was married to William Jackson. They resided on farms near Earlham until 1900 when they moved to Earlham where she has resided since with the exception of one year she and her husband lived in Whittier, California.

Laura was a birthright member of the Earlham Friends church and has been a member who attended regularly when health permitted. She took an active interest in the Gleaners Sunday School class, Ladies Aid and Womens Missionary Society until illness forced her retirement.

She was also active in the Three Link Club and a member of the Rural Letter Mail Carriers Association Auxiliary. At one time she held membership in the Marguerite Rebekah Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents, the ten brothers and sisters and her husband William.

Surviving her are her son, Wallace, one grandson William L. of Des Plaines, Illinois, two granddaughters, Janet (Mrs. David W. Joyner) of Columbus, Indiana, Jane, a student at Earlham College, Richmond, Indiana, and three great grandchildren; namely, Ann Louise and Stephen Jackson and William Joyner; also, many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The funeral service was held in the Earlham Friends church on Monday, December 16 at 2 p.m. The pastor, L. Willard Reynolds, brought the message. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
