SERVICES HERE FOR FORMER RESIDENT

Mrs. E. M. Chaney, a native of Madison county, died Monday, March 11, at the home of her son, T. G. Chaney, in Merriam, Kan.

Mrs. Chaney was the former Bessie Greer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Greer. In recent years she had visited here a number of times at the home of Mrs. W. W. Greer and Mrs. Ina Long.

Funeral services were held in Kansas City, but the body was to be brought to Winterset for burial in the Winterset cemetery. Brief services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Richards Funeral home.

MRS. BESSIE CHANEY BURIED AT WINTERSET

Among those who were here from a distance Wednesday to attend funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Greer Chaney were her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Chaney and daughter Mary Bess and son Dick of Merriam, Kansas, Tommy Chaney of Des Plain, Illinois, L. J. Greer and Mrs. Warren Shoecrafe of Dallas, Texas, Mrs Annie Hartsook of Mason City, Lyle Hartsook of Indianola, Edna Stewart of Boone, W. C. Stewart of Jefferson, Mrs. Charles R. Hockett and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Culpepper of Des Moines.

Mrs. Chaney was the daughter of Thomas and Sarah Kirtland Greer, a pioneer family of Madison county. She spent her girlhood days in Winterset moving to Omaha with her family. She was married to Edward Chaney who preceded her in death in December 1949. Mrs. Chaney was a member of the Presbyterian church in Kansas City and the Order of Eastern Star in Watertown, South Dakota.

Short services were held from the Richards Funeral home Wednesday with burial in the Winterset Cemetery.
