Mrs. Newton Brittain Dies

Word has been received here of the death of Mrs. Newton Brittain, a former Madison county resident at her home in Humptulips, Washington, last week. She was 79 years of age and had been in failing health for the past year, but was critically ill for only about two weeks.

She was a daughter of Levi Sargents of Aberdeen and Humptulips. Illinois was her birthplace, but she moved to this county with her parents, when she was a girl. Here she was married to Mr. Brittain, and they celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary eight years ago. They moved to Washington in 1882 and to Humptulips in 1888.

She leaves the following sons; Darwin B. and Fred Brittain of Humptulips, and Charles, Seattle. An only daughter, Lydia died five years ago. She is also survived by a brother, Charles Sargent, Marysville and two sisters, Mrs. Ada Perry, Los Angeles, and Mrs. Alma Toll, Seattle. Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 11th at the chapel of the Pinnick mortuary, the Rev. Everett M. Hill, pastor of the First Methodist church officiating. Burial was in the Humptulips cemetery.

Mr. Brittain is a brother of Seth, Robert, John and David Brittain and Mrs. A. D. Guiberson of this county.
