Mrs. Luella Cocklin Had Fractured Hip in Fall on Aug. 3
Mrs. Luella Cocklin, former Madison county resident, who has lived in Ridgeway, Missouri for a number of years, died at Bethany, Missouri, Saturday, October 21st, at the age of 83 years.
Mrs. Cocklin suffered a light stroke, about a year ago, and was improving, when she fell August 3rd, and fractured a hip. Since then she has been in a hospital or a nursing home in Bethany.
Mrs. Cocklin, the former Luella Eyerly was born in Madison county, November 4, 1866, the daughter of George and Martha Howell Eyerly. She was raised on the Eyerly farm, west of Winterset, in the West Star community. She was married to Millard Cocklin and they continued to reside in this county for awhile but the past 40 years, have resided in Ridgeway.
Funeral services were held in Ridgeway, at the Methodist church, Monday afternoon, and burial was made in that town. Mr. Cocklin preceded his wife in death.
She is survived by one son and five daughters: Jake Cocklin and Mrs. Winnie Fitzgerald of Ridgeway, Savilla Myers, and Bertha Housman of Hampton, Iowa, Mrs. Marie Pearson of Knoxville and Mrs. Lois Lasley of Leon. Three daughters preceded the parents in death, two dying in infancy, and Mrs. Alice Fitzgerald, 21 years ago.
She also leaves a number of brothers and sisters: Loren, Ray, and Fred Eyerly of Winterset, Virgil Eyerly of Mason City, Charles Eyerly of Brighton, Colorado, Frank Eyerly of Altadena, Calif., and Mrs. Alice Knight of Los Angeles, California.
Other survivors include her stepmother, Mrs. Clara Eyerly of Winterset, and several half brothers and sisters; Emerson Eyerly, Mrs. Beulah Thomas, Mrs. Mabel Shoemaker of Winterset, Loyd and Sam Eyerly of Des Moines, Howard Eyerly of Brighton, Colorado, Jack Eyerly of Chicago, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
