Blanche Everett Howard

Blanche Everett Howard, daughter of Dr. Francis M. and Fidelia C. Everett was born December 16, 1866 in Wayne County, Iowa. She grew to womanhood in Corydon, Iowa. She was united in marriage August 26, 1885, to Dr. E. J. Howard, who preceded her in death September 14, 1905. To this union was born two daughters, Frances W. King of Butte, Montana and Lois Irene, who died in November 6, 1921. She leaves her daughter, Frances and two grandchildren, Jay King Jr. and Winifred of Butte, Montana, one sister, Mrs. J. A. Harper of Greenfield and one niece, Mrs. E. L. Hart of Red Bluff, California.

Mrs. Howard came to Winterset in 1919 and had served as City Librarian since that time. She died at the Creston hospital Monday, April 4th. Funeral services were held here, Friday, April 8 at Tidrick's funeral home and burial was at Corydon.

LAST RITES FRIDAY FOR MRS. HOWARD

City Librarian Dies After Short Illness. Burial Will Be At Corydon

Last rites for Mrs. Blanche Everett Howard, 65, city librarian over thirteen years, who died Monday at a Creston hospital, will be Friday morning at ten o’clock at the Tidrick funeral home with the Rev. A. P. Keast, pastor of the Methodist church conducting the services. Burial will be at Corydon.

Pall bearers at Winterset will be Daniel J. Gallery, H. E. McCombie, Ralph Thompson, Horace Tate, Charles Butterfield and Hugh Steele.

For some time Mrs. Howard had been going to Greenfield to spend the week ends with her sister, Mrs. J. A. Harper who is seriously ill. She became ill while in Greenfield March 26, and was taken to the hospital April 2 where an operation for intestinal obstruction was performed the following day. She rallied from the operation and failed suddenly Monday about noon, death following in a short time.

Mrs. Howard came to Winterset in the fall of 1919 and became librarian November 1, upon the resignation of Miss Mary Cassiday. She was a graduate of the library school of Leland Stanford university at Berkeley, California, and had spent seven years as assistant librarian at Salem, Ore, previous to coming to Winterset. She was a member of the Eastern Stars, Chapter AG, P.E.O., the Leizure Hour club and an associate member of the Current Topic club.

She was born at Corydon December 16, 1866. Her marriage took place there. Her husband, Dr. Howard and a daughter, Irene, a Red Cross nurse who served abroad during the world war, are deceased. A daughter, Mrs. Jay King, of Butte, Montana, will arrive in Winterset this morning. Mrs. King, Mrs. Harper, and two grandchildren, Jay King, Jr., and Winifred King, are her only close relatives.
