Samantha Harris was born near Clarksville, Ohio, July 28, 1852, the daughter of Samuel and Phoebe Harris. Here she lived during her childhood receiving her education in the common schools and Wilmington College.
On December 23, 1875, she was united in marriage with Uriah Compton of New Burlington, Ohio. To this union were born six children, Bertha C. Cook of Van Meter, Jesse S. and Albert M. of Valley Junction, Earl of Webster City, Homer C. and Ellis H. The latter two are now deceased.
One year after her marriage she with her husband moved to near Earlham, Madison County, Iowa, where they lived five years. The following fourteen years they pioneered in northwest Iowa until the death of the husband and father in 1896. They then returned to Earlham which was the family home until 1907 when her residence changed to Valley Junction so that she might be with or near her children.
This mother departed this life April first, 1932 at her home in Valley Junction at the age of seventy-nine years, eight months and three days.
