70-Year-Old Man's Body Found About Two Days After Death
Wilbur M. Slayden, aged 70, was found dead at his farm home, where he lived alone, one and one-half miles south of Bevington Monday morning.
The elderly man's body was found by his sisters, Mrs. Frank Strable of St. Charles, and Mrs. Myrtle McCollin of Chariton when they came to visit him.
County Corner Eggleston was called, and he went to the farm to investigate the death, accompanied by Sheriff Charles Neidt.
After the investigation, Coroner Eggleston issued a report stating that Mr. Slayden had died of a stroke of apoplexy, probably while he slept during the night last Friday or Saturday morning.
Mr. Slayden was a life-long resident of Madison county, having been born here April 27, 1878, the son of Benjamin and Ellen Smith Slayden. His wife died many years ago.
